Importing Chinese vehicles is less mysterious than it looks – but the difference between a smooth order and a headache is almost always the dealer behind it. As a Changan first-level dealer and LIVAN core dealer, we walk distributors through four steps: model selection, pre-delivery inspection, export documentation, and after-sales. This guide lays out each step so you know what good support looks like before you sign.

The four steps, in order

The import workflow from selection to after-sales
Step What happens Who handles it Tip
1. Select Pick models for your market (e.g. Xingka, Star 5, Qiyuan A06, LIVAN 7/8) You + dealer Match body to local demand
2. Inspect (PDI) Pre-delivery inspection at the workshop before shipping Dealer Ask for the PDI checklist
3. Document Export paperwork, customs, logistics from Chongqing Dealer Confirm Incoterms up front
4. Support Spare parts, training, 7×24 after-sales Dealer Lock spare-parts terms in writing

Why the dealer model matters

Changan’s overseas volume rose 35.1% in the first half of 2026 to 402,000 units, and its commercial line (Changan Kaicheng) grew overseas by 101.3% in July alone. That scale backs a real parts and training network – the part you cannot fake. A first-level dealer coordinates PDI, documents, and after-sales so your team receives a road-ready unit, not a project. Our Russia import guide shows the model applied to one market.

Watch-outs when importing

  • Avoid vehicles imported without local support – no warranty, no parts, no local calibration.
  • Confirm engine and suspension are set for your fuel quality and roads (e.g. Nigerian conditions).
  • Get spare-parts availability and warranty in writing; some markets offer 6 years / 200,000 km.
  • Clarify Incoterms and which side handles customs and last-mile delivery.

Frequently asked questions

How do I import Chinese cars to Africa?

Work with a first-level dealer (e.g. Changan via Yuzhiyan) who handles model selection, PDI, export documents, and after-sales. You manage local customs and sales; the dealer manages the China side end to end.

What does a Chinese car dealer provide?

A proper dealer supplies inspection, export paperwork, logistics, spare parts, and technical training. Without these, you are buying a unit, not a supply line.

How long does vehicle export from China take?

Transit depends on route and Incoterms, typically a few weeks by RoRo or container from Chongqing. PDI and documentation add lead time up front – plan for it.

Do I need a local partner for after-sales?

Strongly recommended. Local assembly or distributor support (warranty, parts, service) is what keeps fleets on the road. Confirm the support structure before your first container.
